We're Here to Develop People

Over the years as a people leader, I was often thanked for “taking a chance” on hiring someone without direct experience in the role.

But here’s the thing:

 I wasn’t taking a chance.

I hired people based on their skills, their potential, and what they uniquely brought to the team; including diversity of thought and perspective. No leader should want a team of clones who all think and operate the same.

If someone already had a proven track record in the role - I saw that as an opportunity to help them stretch, to try something new or take the next step in their growth.

Because that’s the job.

As people leaders, we’re not just here to fill roles—we’re here to develop people.

What would shift if you defined “qualified” more expansively?

💡What’s possible when we hire for who someone can become, not just what they’ve already done?
